The founder

Tao Li built this club to coach the way she was coached

Tao Li is the only Singaporean female swimmer to reach an Olympic final. She founded the club to give children and adults the same thing that made her a champion: correct technique from day one, taught by coaches who have raced themselves.

  • Our junior swimmers consistently rank among the top 3 in Singapore
  • A complete pathway, from water confidence to elite competition
  • Coaches handpicked and trained to Tao Li's own method

How it works

Your first four steps with us

  1. Trial lesson

Your swimmer's first lesson is a trial, so the coach can see where they are in the water.

  2. The right level

The coach places them in the level that fits, so nobody is held back or rushed.

  3. A plan of their own

Each new student gets a file with their programme outline and a 16-week lesson plan.

  4. Progress you can see

After 16 lessons, a swim assessment and a written report for parents.

About Tao Li

Tao Li, Olympian, world champion and head coach

Tao Li is the only Singaporean female swimmer to reach an Olympic final. Today she runs Tao Li Swimming Club, coaching the next generation with the same discipline and technique that carried her to the world stage.

Why she started the club

Start right, and the potential shows

Tao Li learned early that a swimmer's ceiling is set by the strokes they learn first. Habits formed in the first lessons are hard to undo later, so she built a club where every swimmer, from a three-year-old to an adult beginner, is taught the correct technique from day one.

The result is a teaching method of her own: a structured level system, a lesson plan for every student and regular assessments, delivered by coaches she has handpicked and trained. It is the same approach for a toddler finding their confidence and for a junior chasing a national title.

Her goal reaches beyond the pool. Tao Li wants every child to leave with resilience, confidence and a winning mindset they can carry into school and life.

Kids and toddler swimming lessons in Singapore

Your child learns to be safe and confident in the water, then masters freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly with the correct technique from the very first lesson. Small classes, a lesson plan for every child and a written progress report for you.

What parents look for

More than learning to swim

Swimming lessons give young children far more than a new sport. Here is what our lessons build, week by week.

Coach supporting a child learning to float
  • Water safety. Children first learn to float, breathe and move safely, so they are water safe before anything else.
  • Confidence. Small steps and a coach who knows each child turn a nervous first lesson into a swimmer who loves the water.
  • Motor skills and coordination. Kicking, arm strokes and breathing together build balance, strength and coordination as children grow.
  • Social growth. Toddler classes use nursery rhymes, games and word association, so children learn to listen, take turns and have fun together.
  • The right strokes from the start. Bad habits are hard to undo later. Tao Li's method teaches correct technique from the first lesson, which means faster progress and stronger muscle development.
  • A path for the future. Children who show talent can move on to our squad, competitive and DSA programmes.
Young children holding kickboards at the pool
Toddler swimming, ages 3 to 4

The best age to start is three

Our 3-level toddler programme teaches the key elements of swimming while helping your child's physical and social development, with plenty of fun along the way.

  • Age 3: nursery rhymes, games and word association make the water a happy place. The aim is to be water safe and water confident.
  • Age 4: children pick up basic freestyle arms and kicking quickly. Learning the right strokes now is also how we spot a child's swimming potential.
Kids swimming, ages 5 to 12

Six levels, from non-swimmer to confident swimmer

Our own teaching modules take a child from their first float to diving and turning. Systematic teaching means better, faster progress and stronger water confidence.

LevelWhat your child learns
Level 1Water confidence, basic floating and breathing, basic movement in the water
Level 2Basic freestyle
Level 3Basic backstroke
Level 4Basic breaststroke
Level 5Basic butterfly
Level 6Dives and turns
How progress is tracked

You always know how your child is doing

  1. Trial lesson

The first lesson is a trial. The coach assesses your child's swimming and decides which level they should join.

  2. Student file

Every new student gets a file with their programme outline and a 16-week lesson plan.

  3. Every lesson planned

The coach reviews the file before each lesson and updates it after, so learning is tracked.

  4. Quarterly report

After 16 lessons your child takes a swim assessment, and you receive a written report.

Questions from parents

Kids swimming lessons: your questions answered

What age can my child start swimming lessons?

Toddler lessons start from 3 years old, which we believe is the best age to begin. Children aged 5 to 12 join the kids programme.

My child is nervous in the water. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Every child starts with water confidence, and two of our coaches specialise in helping students overcome a fear of water.

How does the first lesson work?

The first lesson is a trial. The coach assesses your child and places them in the right level of our 6-level programme.

How big are the classes?

Toddler classes have up to 6 children with one coach and last 45 minutes.

How will I know my child is improving?

Each child has a 16-week lesson plan that the coach updates after every lesson. After 16 lessons, your child takes a swim assessment and you receive a written report.

Where are the lessons held?

At Temasek Club, 131 Rifle Range Road, and Sembawang Country Club, 249 Sembawang Road. Members and non-members can both enquire.

Adult swimming lessons: your questions answered

I cannot swim at all. Can I still join?

Yes. Our learn-to-swim modules are designed for complete beginners and take you to a confident swimmer in 12 sessions.

I can swim, but my technique is poor. Can you help?

Yes. We customise a programme to correct and improve your technique so you reach your goals quickly.

Our competitive training caters to different age groups and the needs of each swimmer, across five programmes. Swimmers are assessed regularly and move up as they improve.

Every competitive team coach has trained and raced at national or international level. They understand the physical and emotional side of competition, so they can guide and support swimmers through both.

Preparing for Direct School Admission through swimming

Direct School Admission lets students enter a secondary school on the strength of a talent such as a sport. Swimming skills take time to build, so the earlier a child's talent is spotted and nurtured, the better.

  • Identify your child's talent and interest in swimming from a young age
  • An Acceleration Programme to build skills and reach competition readiness sooner
  • Coached by the same team that develops our top-ranked juniors
Stroke correction

Find out what is holding you back

Correct technique is the key to your full potential in the water. The earlier a swimmer fixes their strokes, the sooner they swim at their best.

  • For swimmers of any age and level who want better efficiency and speed
  • Helps learn-to-swim students move confidently into competitive swimming
  • Taught by experienced stroke correction specialists who spot and fix faults quickly

What is the DSA programme?

It develops young swimmers early so they are ready to apply for Direct School Admission to a secondary school through swimming.

Who is stroke correction for?

Any swimmer, of any age or level, who wants to swim more efficiently and faster, including learn-to-swim students preparing for competitive swimming.

Private swimming classes in Singapore, one coach for one swimmer

Every minute of the lesson is about you or your child. A private class is the fastest way to build confidence, overcome a fear of water or fix a stroke, at a time that suits your family.

Why go private

The benefits of one-to-one coaching

Coach supporting a young swimmer in the water
  • Full attention. The coach watches every stroke and corrects it on the spot.
  • Your pace. Nervous swimmers are never rushed; quick learners are never held back.
  • Faster progress. More time in the water practising, less time waiting for a turn.
  • Flexible timing. Lessons arranged around school, work and family.
  • Focused goals. Fear of water, a weak stroke, a race or a DSA trial: the whole lesson works on it.
  • For all ages. Toddlers, kids, teens and adults.
